Abstract:   In many parts of India, Women face significant barriers in accessing academic education and vocationa training, limiting their opportunities for socio- economic mobility. This article explores how these restrictions compel women to take up bidi rolling work, a low – paying and often exploitative occupation. Through a mixed method both qualitative and quatitative study, the study examines lived experiences of women engaged in bidi rolling, highlighting the complex interplay between patriarchal norms, limited educational opportunities and economic necessity. The findings suggest that the lack of access to education and skills training forces women into informal and precarious work arrangements, perpetuating cycles of poverty and vulnerability. The article argues that addressing these systematic barriers is crucial to promoting women’s empowerment and improving  their socio- economic status. By shedding light on the lived realities of women in bidi rolling work, this study underscores the need for policy interventions that prioritize women’s esucation, skills development and economic inclusion. Ultimately, this article contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between education, work and women empowerment in India.
