A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF MATHEMATICAL CREATIVITY AND ACHIEVEMENT AMONG SECONDARY STUDENTS

The present research paper is based on the study of mathematical creativity of students studying at the secondary level in the context of their mathematical achievement. The descriptive survey method was used in the present research study. A total of 200 students of class 9th were selected from government and private schools of Almora city by a simple random method as a sample. To measure the mathematical achievement of students and marks obtained in the mathematics subject and to assess mathematical creativity, the Mathematical Creativity Test of Secondary School Students created by Dr. Bhudev Singh (1985) was used. For statistical methods, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used. In conclusion, a significant difference was found in the mathematical creativity of students of urban and rural areas studying at the secondary level. The reason for this could be lack of awareness among students, support of parents, and differences in parents' education and economic status. No significant difference was found in the mathematical creativity of students of government and private schools studying at the secondary level.
