Urinary incontinence is a major female health problem between the ages of 25 to 45 years. The incidence is higher in women who have given birth and also increases with parity. Health personnel have more responsibility in the prevention and control of urinary incontinence by educating the postnatal mothers regarding pelvic floor exercises. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on pelvic floor exercises for the prevention and control of urinary incontinence among postnatal mothers. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: 1. To assess the pre-test level of knowledge regarding pelvic floor exercises in prevention and control of urinary incontinence among postnatal mothers. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding pelvic floor exercises in prevention and control of urinary incontinence among postnatal mothers. 3. To find the association between pre-test level of knowledge scores and selected socio-demographic variables. METHODS: Pre-Experimental One Group Pre-Test Post-Test was the research design used in this study. The research employed the random sample technique to collect data from 30 postnatal mothers. The knowledge level was evaluated using the Structured Knowledge Questionnaire Tool. After the evaluation, postnatal mothers had access to the Structured Teaching Program. On day eight, a post-test evaluation was carried out with the same tool. The findings were explained with the use of both descriptive and inferential statistics. RESULTS: 76.7% of participants had insufficient knowledge of pelvic floor muscle exercise during the data collection process, whereas 23.3% had intermediate knowledge. 20% of respondents had moderate knowledge and 80% had adequate knowledge in this domain at the post-test. INTERPRETATION AND CONCLUSION: Participating in a structured teaching program can provide postnatal mothers with additional knowledge regarding pelvic floor exercises in prevention of urinary incontinence.
