ABSTRACT: Financial technology (Fintech) represents a significant technological advancement that is reshaping the structure and delivery of financial services. By integrating digital innovations with traditional financial systems, Fintech has played a crucial role in enhancing financial inclusion, promoting digital payment mechanisms, improving access to credit, reducing transaction costs, and encouraging product and service innovation. This paper provides a descriptive overview of the Fintech landscape, highlighting its evolution, key applications, and relevance within the financial sector. It examines various Fintech business models and investment patterns that are influencing both emerging startups and established financial institutions. Additionally, the study explores the technological, regulatory, and managerial challenges faced by Fintech firms as well as traditional institutions adapting to digital transformation. Special attention is given to the Indian context, where Fintech has emerged as a powerful tool for addressing the needs of the under banked and unbanked population. The paper also identifies critical research themes relevant to policymakers, academic researchers, and industry stakeholders, offering a structured foundation for future empirical and theoretical studies. Overall, the study emphasizes that while Fintech presents substantial opportunities for financial system modernization and inclusion in India, it also introduces challenges related to regulation, security, and sustainable growth that require balanced policy and strategic responses.
