Abstract:  The exploration of gender dynamics in the literary landscape is a rich and multifaceted field as it delves into gender influences on literature and vice versa. This review examines how gender subtleties shape literary production and consumption and influence the reception, and criticism of literary works. The rise of feminist and literary theoies, gender studies, and queer theory has brought to light how literature both reflects and shapes societal understanding and relationship among people based on gender. This research explores the historical and contemporary trends in the portrayal of gender in literature, the role of feminist and queer theories in literary criticism, and the impact of gender on the formation of the literary canon. The paper also highlights the shifting roles of male and female authors, the representation of gender in literature, and how gender biases influence literary criticism and canon formation. The idea of intersectionality, introduced by Kimberlé Crenshaw, has also been discussed that has become central to understanding changing gender scenarios in literature. The evolving subtleties of gender roles and identities has also impacted how literature is written, read, and critiqued. This research article provides an overview of key findings and trends in the analysis of gender within literature. Different literary genres ie.  drama, novel and verse have been explored to traverse the peculiarities and complexities involved in gender dynamics. Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice’ offers a complex analysis of gender aspects, revealing both the limitations imposed on women in a patriarchal society and their strategies for navigating and challenging these constraints. In Jeanette Winterson’s novel ‘Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit’, the life of a young girl, Jeanette, who grows up in a strict Pentecostal community and discovers her lesbian identity, has also been discussed in this paper. The paper also discusses Imtiaz Dharkar’s ‘Another Woman’ also deals with changing gender positions in power dominated society.
