Global research collaboration and thematic mapping of Diabetic Neuropathy Research: A Scientometric Study Based on PubMed

The present study aims to explore the global research landscape of Diabetic Neuropathy (DN) using a scientometric analysis of the literature published in the PubMed database from 2021 to 2025. The retrieval and analysis of the records were performed in the Biblioshiny interface of the Bibliometrix package in R and resulted in a total of 1,347 records. The publications growth, the most influential authors, the most productive journals, the most frequent co-authorship patterns, the institutional connections, and the thematic developments of DN research were among the factors studied. Results showed that the scientific production had been gradually growing at 8.42% per year, suggesting that the world is now devoting more scientific attention to diabetic neuropathy and its complications. Collaborative patterns between authors and institutions were found to be strong, especially between the research networks of the United States and Europe. Thematic mapping showed that the areas of diabetic foot ulcers, wound healing, neuropathic pain, and regenerative therapies were major research focus areas, whereas machine learning and advanced therapeutic interventions were emerging. The research also emphasizes the multi-disciplinary aspects of DN research, which involve endocrinology, neurology, podiatry and wound-care science. Overall, the results offer valuable insights into current research trends, thinking models and emerging priorities in the field of global diabetic neuropathy research.
